Use XML to describe, store and transfer a variety of data on the Web and elsewhere. Explore tools for creating, modifying and documenting DTD (where a document typically conforms to a predefined template) and XSL. Identify the technologies related to XML and how XML is used in the real world. Converting to XML gives you the ability to publish documents to the Web, print, create CD-ROMs, and to send information to handheld devices at the click of a button.
This course will teach you to:
- Identify the differences between HTML and XHTML and be able to create well-formed XHTML documents
- Create well-formed and valid XML documents
- Define a Document Type Definition (DTD) for XML documents
You will learn to:
- Define a schema for their XML documents
- Create Document Type Definitions (DTD) and Schemas for validating XML documents
- Describe the use of the Document Object Model (DOM) and Simple API for XML (SAX) for processing XML documents
- Define Cascading Style Sheets to display XML documents
This course will teach you to:
- Create style sheets using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and the Extensible Style sheet Language with Transforms (XSLT)
- Identify XML-based applications
- Use XLink and XPointers to link and navigate their XML documents
- Identify the differences between parsing XML documents with SAX and DOM

This class does not require a background in programming or web design, but both would be helpful.
